Parenting and Parenting Psychotherapy
Parenting

I provide consultation about parenting children of ages across the lifespan, from toddlers to young adults and beyond. My approach incorporates a deep understanding of development and psychology to address parents' specific questions and concerns. I offer practical guidance and hands on advice. While many parents come without significant challenges and are seeking guidance on parenting strategies and approaches, other parents consult with me when facing specific issues or dilemmas with their child, adolescent or young adult.

I am sometimes sought out as a consultant for families who are in difficult situations with their child or adolescent and are trying to determine what course to take in order to best help their child. For example, when an adolescent has been struggling substantially but won't agree to go to therapy, or when an adolescent has not had a good response to therapy or other interventions. In these consultations, I work closely with the family, speak with other relevant professionals, and carefully review written materials, in order to generate a plan and next possible steps.

Parenting Psychotherapy

I offer a unique fusion of parenting and psychotherapy. In this type of psychotherapy, I help with parenting in the context of one's own therapy. This type of therapy aims to understand the ways in which one's own personal reactions, earlier histories, past or current relationships and/or one's own upbringing impact the experience of being a parent or impact parenting a particular child or children. With this better and nuanced understanding in mind, we work to formulate parenting approaches and strategies that further fortify the parent and the parent-child relationship.
